Oliva Palermo and Black Leather Leggings

It's been a while since I posted a look from Olivia Palermo and when I found out My Friday's Fancies is all about outfit crushes today, I knew I had to pull inspiration from a favorite style muse.  Olivia always is spot on trend whether she's attending an event, or just out to get coffee, she is a flawless beauty with a look that is always stylish.  One of my favorite trends this season is biker sheek leather.  You don't have to ride a motorcycle to sport this trend.  It can actually be very classy but still a little edgy at the same time, so take a look at how Olivia Palermo pulls this together.
Oliva Palermo Black Leather Leggings

Cotton shirt,  / Mint Velvet black long sleeve t shirt, $47 / Leather pants / Ann Taylor suede flat / Melie Bianco handbag

I love this look so I will definitely be adding a pair of these pants to my wardrobe this season. The trick is to not go too expensive since they are super trendy, however, don't go too cheap either...you'll take the chance of your new wardrobe statement piece looking like pleather (plastic/leather...you know the look)!

Wearing White After Labor Day

My friend Stacee called me the other day and asked about wearing white after Labor Day.  She specifically wanted to know about white jeans.  Now the old rule of thumb was absolutely no white pants post Labor Day, but these days, white is more acceptable as long as you know how to pull it off.

Rule #1
Do not wear flip flops or sandals with the white jeans.  You need to pair the pant with boots to keep them from looking too summery.

Rule #2
Do not wear white linen!  This is a huge no no since linen is such a warm weather fabric, pairing it with white is definitely something you should only wear at the beach.  Stick with jeans.  Trust me.

Rule #3
Keep the top balanced with a chunky sweater, scarf, or chambray shirt to off set the summery white color in the jean.

My go to Fall white jeans look?

You can't go wrong this time of year pairing the white jeans with your chambray top you've had since Spring.  When the weather gets cooler, layer a chunky knit sweater to give this look longevity.  Add your go to boots, top off with a scarf and you'll get another season's wear out of those favorite jeans.

How To Style Scarfs Like Jessica Alba

This time of year can be super tricky when it comes to choosing your attire. The mornings are chilly, the afternoons warm, so your wardrobe needs to meet somewhere in the middle. Layering is key, however the oh so stylish scarf can be just the piece that serves functionable as well as gives you that added style to the basic ensemble.  When it comes to sporting scarfs, no one does it better than Jessica Alba.  Jessica often takes that classic, basic look of jeans and a tee and tops it off with an amazing scarf. Here's a few of my favorite looks...

This look is super easy.  If you have a square scarf, fold it in half corner to corner to form a triangle.  Then take the top of the triangle and fold over and continue to fold until you form one long rectangle.  Tie both ends together to form a large circle.  Then wrap around neck twice with tie hidden in the back.

I have a scarf already sewn together that makes it simple to wear and style.

Here's the look...

My Go To Game Day Attire

My Friday's Fancies today is dedicated to an idea close to my heart.....game day attire.  I've done a post in the past about this same subject, so today, I'm bringing you another one of my favorite ensemble to wear when cheering on my Vols.  I actually wore this outfit last weekend when we were completely creamed by the Florida Gators.  Oh well, it was a fun day out anyway!  Here's a picture of my friend Bethany and me at the game when I was wearing the outfit....

As I stated in my earlier post, I'm all about the game day dress, so I found these pieces for my board today similar to the one I wore last weekend.

University of Tennessee Game Day Attire

Shift dress, $52 / Crafted denim jacket, $65 / High heels / Scarve, $63

How to Wear Printed Denim....Part Two

As promised, today I'm bringing you the Shop the Look details from yesterday's post.  I just recently started my new job, yea!, and coupled with co-chairing a few non-profit events, I'm swamped!   So today, I'm bringing you all the second part of my How to Wear Printed Denim Post.  Here's the picture from yesterday in case you missed it....

Most of these items I had in my closet besides the ever so trendy printed denim jeans.  I bought them at T.J. Maxx for $40.  As you know, it's hard to find things other people score at T.J.'s so I searched the internet to find you all the perfect replica of this ensemble....all items are less than $100 of course!

Shop This Look!

Here's a great blazer I found from Piperlime for just $79.  Similar to the one I'm wearing, you can turn the sleeves up for a peek of unexpected fabric detail.
$79

I'm sporting a Three Dot grey top, similar to this one.  Three Dot's a great brand just because the cotton's super soft, but their stuff is a little pricey.  Really, any old grey top will do.  Just make sure it covers your rear!
Buy it here.
$78

Here's a pair of grey leopard jeans I found on Amazon for $44.  I don't like to spend a lot of money on something that is super trendy, like printed denim, because I don't see this trend being around too long.  So unless you plan on investing in a pair that you won't be able to wear again for probably 20 years, when these are back in style, then get these for a deal.
Buy them here.
$44

I love these black mid calf boots that you can wear all season long.  Pair them with the skinny jeans, with leggings, or with a skirt for a spot on trend look.
Buy them here.
$70

Stylish Rain Gear

It has been raining like crazy here in Nashville so that got me thinking, and my friends talking, about rain wear.  I love it when I get special requests for my posts, and my friend Bridget wanted some advice on what to wear on these rainy days, yet still look cute and stylish.  Here's some ideas on the perfect rainy day outfit that won't break the bank!

Start with an amazing umbrella...

Tory Burch can do no wrong in my book, so making this umbrella the focal point of the outfit is a fabulous choice.
Buy it here
$48

Next up...an amazing trench coat...
You don't have to spend a fortune on a classic trench.  Sure, the Burberry one is fabulous, but for the money, you can't go wrong with this lovely one from Target.  (Don't they just have everything???)  The classic lines of the trench go well with skirts or pants to make a versatile piece you'll wear for years.

Buy this one here
$50

Top it off with the perfect rain boots....

So I am totally breaking my rule of not featuring products over $100, but for $124, these are the best rain boots you will ever own.  They are so sturdy, super cute, and keep your feet completely dry.  I personally own a pair, and they are a must have for rainy days.
Buy them here.
$124

Last but Not Least....
For a little pop of color, add these comfy welly socks from Hunter to the ensemble.

Buy them here.
$26

That's it!  You have these items and your rainy day attire is complete.  Just layer these on top of your outfit and you're stylish and dry.

Ankle Booties for Fall...Under $100

One super hot trend for the season is the ankle bootie.  You've probably seen the celebs rockin this look in all the magazines, and if you are like me, it may be taking you a while to get hip to this trend.  I first saw this picture of Anna Paquin sporting the booties with shorts, and I wasn't too keen on the idea of wearing it myself.

However, the look has become quite mainstream this season as you can find widespread selections of ankle booties in stores such as Target and Kohl's.  So buckle up and get ready to make this look your own.  In the meantime, here's a few inspirations to help you get in the mood for the hot ankle boot trend.

Kate Bosworth rocking the trend with a fabulous tan pair.

Some of my favorite fashion muses wearing this gush worthy pair from Miu Miu this past spring. I love the look Nicky Hilton, far left, is wearing for fall!

Target Fabulousness

If I was to tell you all I am completely obsessed with Target these days it would be an understatement.  I find myself going in there for a few things and coming out with a basket full of items I just had to have!  Well now that the Target down the road added groceries, I'm in real trouble.  Today I popped in few a few necessities and came out with this outfit.  Now, I was super creative and just took this entire outfit from a picture on the wall (Ha!), but I did have to search all over the store for the items.  Anyway, I was able to hunt down a few key pieces and add them to items I already owned to make it complete.  Here's the final look...

Fall Ensemble from Target

You can literally find just about anything in Target.  If you see something in an expensive boutique, there's a good chance you'll find something similar in Target.  Want to try this outfit yourself? Then you're in luck! I've found all these pieces for you from Target.com.

How to Throw a Super Hero Party

It's been quite a while since I had a "How To Tuesday" so today I asked my friend Anna from Atlanta to guest post about her super hero party she threw for her adorable son's birthday.  Anna can rival Tory Spelling when it comes to throwing parties for her kids, so I had to have her share with us all her ideas for this amazing birthday party.  On to the party!

Hi Y’all!  It’s Anna from Atlanta.  Winetastegirl recently visited me in Atlanta (Yeah!)
and we discussed a topic near and dear to both our little hearts- kids parties!
I have a son who just turned 3 and I am seriously “boy challenged.”  I can rock a girl
party but what am I to do for a boy’s party?

My inspiration came in an unlikely form….a water heater box.

Mom, I’m busy changing into my super hero costume, stop bothering me!

Hello, telephone booth… Hello Super Hero Party!

I ordered my invitations from Andersruff (http://www.andersruff.com/) where they have
the cutest invitations and party printables.  I also love the site for great party inspirations.

With the invitations ready to go and the telephone booth painted, I let my creative juices
run wild!  I decided to do a Pop Art / Comic book graphic theme so I had to locate a
comic book and a comic book store- which proved much more difficult than Big Bang
Theory would lead you to believe.  After I tracked down some comics, I created posters
with call outs to add to the vintage comic theme.  You could also use these posters for a
fun photo booth.  I got Poster Board and used plain white paper and the Mufferaw font in
PowerPoint for the letters.

I painted liquor store boxes grey and stamped black windows on them so the kids could
knock down Gotham city.
I had to drink quite a bit of liquor, but it was worth it!
I purchased Superhero and Wizard capes at JoAnns so each child would have one to wear
at the party.  This seemed to go over better with the older children and me, since I
secretly looked for a Wonder Woman outfit to wear (I do love a theme!)

 Look out, Gotham City!

For the tablescape, I found a black polkadotted fabric at Joanns that I loved and decided
to use for the backdrop.  I wrapped boxes in tissue paper from the Dollar Store to match
the invitation and created my own little city out of Dickens Christmas Village boxes
(hello recycling!)

My original idea was to put the food on top of the boxes but I decided at the last minute
to just use them as background.  I also used black poster board to make the city shadow
and hung the black city background from fishing wire attached to the window sill above
the table.

Now onto the food- I had to use up those comic books, so I used the pages as cones to fill
with kettle corn from Costco.  They have a HUGE bag of it that goes a long way for a
kiddie party.

Next, I dipped marshmallows in white chocolate and colored sugar.  They were a HUGE
hit!  They also gave me the opportunity to use my cupcake toppers since my son wanted
an actual cake and not cupcakes.  I stuck the cupcake toppers right into the marshmallow
so the kids would have something to hold onto when they ate them.

Probably my best (and most insane) idea was to have a Super Hero Silly String fight.  I
gave all the kids Silly String and sent them into the backyard to battle it out.  So much
fun and so much Silly String.

The favors were the Super Hero capes and a big ole bag of candy.
Happy Party Planning, Y’all!
Anna from Atlanta

Thanks Anna!

What's your favorite part of this "super" party?

Hot for Fall...Burgundy

If you look around in the magazines and stores this year, you will notice the new black this season is burgundy.  It was all over the runways for fall and this is one color everyone will need in their closets this year.  Not only is it flattering on almost all skin tones, but it goes with just about everything.  Think about pairing it with greys, blacks, winter whites and if you want to go bold... cherry red or bright orange.  Here's a few ideas for you all to shop, so you too can be a part of this amazing fall color trend.

Love this sweater from Free People.  Grab a pair of black leggings and an over sized burgundy sweater, and you're all set for fall.  Find this amazing sweater here from Piperlime for $99.

Pair this necklace with a bright white button down and jeans for an effortlessly stylish look.
Buy it here from Amazon.com for $32.  (There's only one left!!)

Tom's are, of course, so comfy and they love to get in on the trends as well.  Try these burgundy corduroy Tom's wedges for $69.  Buy them here.
Burgundy colored jeans are a great way to incorporate this rich color into your fall wardrobe.
Buy them here for $68.

Will you be rockin' burgundy this season?

Fabulously Fun First Day of School Ensemble

Today's Friday's Fancies is all about back to school.  I have to admit, this one was a bit hard for me since I haven't had a first day of school in about a decade, but I gave it the old college try.  (Pardon the pun!)  So what would I wear if I was going back to school?  Well, it would have to be something other than pajamas, which I unfortunately remember were wore at times.  We also seemed to sport a lot of hiking boots, jeans, and Northface pullovers....I did go to University of Tennessee after all.  Times have changed however, and styles have as well, so now I would style my first day of school ensemble much differently.  Check out my pics for a fabulously fun first day of school frock!

Crazy for Chevron

One thing I'm totally crazy about this year has been the Chevron print.  I don't know what it is about the zig zag design that is so appealing to me, but I just can't seem to get enough.  Now when it comes to fashions, I would do this in moderation, however, accesorries for the person as well as the home can be absloutely fabulous in this print.  Take a look at a few of my chevron crushes I found and see if they don't make you Crazy for Chevron...

I pulled this set from an amazing blog/store I just found called Copper Etiquette.  This fabulous dress is only $49! Click here to purchase.

How fabulous are these note cards from Nico and Lala?  A set of 10 personalized cards for just $18 makes the perfect gift! Click here to purchase.

A little room inspiration.

A large, personalized, melamine platter for only $34?  I'm already thinking this would make a great Christmas gift!  Buy it here.

What's your take on the Chevron Craze?
