Maxi Dress Must Haves

One of my favorite trends of the summer is the Maxi dress.  I love to get in from the beach or pool, with that salty, beach blown hair look, and an easy option to throw on is the Maxi dress.  They are breezy and seem to flow perfectly with the casual vibe of summer.  Dress them up for a night out, pair them with a smart blazer, or toss on your flip flops for a day of shopping.  Maxi's flatter almost any body type since they can really cover up some of those body flaws we all have.  Here's an option I fell in love with at first sight.
The corals and blues remind me of the beach and the strapless look is one feature I wear a lot in the warmer weather.

One more outfit I've found to wear with this amazing coral bauble necklace from Geranium!

Dress: Quiksilver, Necklace: Geranium, Shoes Boutique 9

One option is to wear heels to dress up the look.  I wear these neutral sandals all the time and I like how they don't compete with the busy pattern of the dress.  Also, if your short like me, we need all the height we can get!

So do you have a favorite maxi dress?

Summer Fashion Link Up...Nautical Looks

Everywhere you look this season you see navy and white stripes, anchor details, pops of red and all things nautical.  Sailors, seashells, and sea life are hot, hot, hot and if you don't already have something in your closet along those lines, go get you a little piece of this seafarer look.   If you are rocking the nautical vibe this season, don't forget to link up below so we can see what your favorite pieces are.  Click here to see the details of my Summer Fashion Link Up.  Now on to a simple way to add a little bit of nautical to your wardrobe this summer.

Grab a classic pair of white pants, a staple for the summer wardrobe, a navy and white striped shirt, and a red bag for a big pop of color.

Make the bag the statement piece of your outfit.

I'm even sporting a fishtail braid in keeping with the theme!

Nautical is super easy to pull off, it's also classy and timeless.
Will you be sporting your nautical wear this season?

I know I'm excited to be sporting these looks and I hope you all get some fashion inspiration here and may even find a few new ideas you'll be crushing on this summer!  Now on to the sundresses....

I fell in love with this sundress as soon as I saw it at Festivity Boutique in Green Hills a few weeks ago.  Not only is it super chic, but it's comfy and can be dressed up or down depending on the shoes and accessories.  This is a dressier look I'm showing here, but play with pairing your dress with wedges and a large tote to give it a more casual feel.  Find something similar here.

Gushing over these 4 inch high sandals from Boutique 9.  They are total show stoppers and surprisingly super comfortable.

Large, statement pieces are all the rage in jewelry and this bauble bracelet stands out, yet in an unassuming way.  When sporting a large bangle like this one, pair it with a small clutch to give balance.

Look for delicate details when choosing a dress to give it character.

I live in sundresses in the warmer months and I will be wearing this one out!  So do you have a favorite sundress?

Memorial Day Fun!

I don't know about you all, but I'm super excited to have a three day weekend and I have a ton of things planned.  First off, my sister is getting married on Sunday!  Yeah! We are also having a huge family cookout since we'll all be together for the wedding, and I think there is nothing more fun than getting together with family and friends in the summer at a picnic or barbecue.   So for today's post, I wanted to share with you all my idea of the perfect ensemble for any outdoor activity you may be participating in this weekend.

This is what I want my cookout to look like.  Have you ever seen a more organized table?

This is one side I will be making!
Ingredients
  • 4 ears fresh corn on the cob, husks removed
  • 1/4 cup Crisco vegetable oil
  • 3 tablespoons lime juice
  • 3 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 small red pepper, finely chopped (about 1/3 cups)
  • 3 green onions, finely chopped
  • 3 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro leaves or parsley
Instructions
  1. Rub the corn with 2 tablespoons oil. Beat the remaining oil, lime juice, maple syrup and black pepper in a small bowl with a fork or whisk.
  2. Lightly oil the grill rack and heat the grill to medium. Grill the corn for 5 minutes or until lightly browned on all sides. Remove the corn from the grill. Cut the corn kernels from the cob with a sharp knife.
  3. Stir the corn, red pepper, green onions and cilantro in a medium bowl. Add the dressing and toss to coat.
So what will you be doing this weekend?

Columbia Yoga Wear

A few weeks ago, OnlineShoes.com wrote asking me to review their yoga wear.  Well of course I said yes, since I spend a lot of my day wearing workout clothes.  I used to wear a suit everyday, but you all know that a few months ago, I was laid off from a pharmaceutical company I worked for, for 12 years.  These days, I've been a full time mommy to my three little kiddos.  As many of you can imagine, I am super busy getting them all ready for school in the morning and I don't always have time to put together outfits. I love to have something cute and comfy I can throw on, and then head to the gym and still look stylish.  Well I found the outfit!  Have you all heard of Columbia brand?  Since college, Columbia has been my go to clothing line for all things outdoors and now, they make this amazing Columbia yoga wear that fits so well into my active lifestyle.
I wore this Columbia ensemble around town running errands and then headed to the gym.  So cute and comfortable!

I'm totally obsessed with these Columbia Yoga Pant.  They are called the "Back Up Pant" for a reason!  The back of these are a little higher so when you are striking that downward dog pose, or are just bending over to pick up the kids, people won't get a little peak of more than they, or you, bargain for!

This windbreaker is amazingly light weight and has a thermal technology.  This is a great jacket to put on after being active to help thermo-regulate your temperature so your body temps don’t dip drastically after activity. Or, you can wear it during your warm up in the early mornings when you don’t want a heavy layer.  I wore it today in 80 degree heat and it felt like I was wearing short sleeves.  I love how easy it is to fold up in your gym bag or purse and you can throw it on when you just need a little cover to complete your look.

This time of year, layers are a fashion must!

This cotton pullover is so comfortable and I'm loving how it sucks you in, in all the right places.  I would throw this on over my workout tank when I need to run into the store or to drop the kids off at school.  So flattering and versatile!

Loving the details on this pullover.

What work out ensemble would be complete without this gush worthy bag?  I throw a ton of things in my workout bag and I need it to be sturdy, yet fashionable.  This one is large, yet easy to carry and the hot pink interior is so sassy!
So this is my go to, comfy outfit I will be rockin this year at the gym and around town. Columbia is such a trusted and well know brand and I'm completely thrilled to be adding these pieces to my collection!

So what do you think of the new Columbia yoga wear pieces?

Lemonade and Watermelon

Spring and Summer are full of bright colors that seem to pop off the rich green backgrounds and one combo I've been inspired by is the Lemonade and Watermelon color palettes.  Bright pinks paired with yellows are eye catching and seem to fit so well into the season, so I've found a few design and fashion ideas channeling this color combo I just can't seem to resist.

And this post wouldn't be complete without a Watermelon Lemonade drink recipe!
Watermelon Lemonade
Yields: 12 servings

Sugar Syrup:
2 cups water
2 cups sugar
Lemonade:
2 cups water
2 cups freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 cup freshly squeezed lime juice
4 cups ice cubes
2 cups diced watermelon
Mixed diced fruit of your choice (such as apples, pears or strawberries)
1 orange, preferably organic, sliced into rounds
1 lemon, preferably organic, sliced into rounds
1 lime, preferably organic, sliced into rounds
To make sugar syrup: Combine the water and sugar in a medium saucepan. Turn the heat to medium-high and boil for 10 minutes. If you are planning to make the lemonade immediately, place 2 cups of the sugar water in the freezer or refrigerator while you do the rest of the prep. (The recipe makes about 2 cups syrup. When stored in a tightly sealed glass jar, sugar syrup keeps indefinitely in the refrigerator).
To make the lemonade: Mix 2 cups of sugar syrup, watermelon, lemon juice, and lime juice in a big bowl or pitcher. Add the ice cubes, diced watermelon and other fruit. Add the orange, lemon, and lime rounds. Stir well and chill until icy cold.

So where do you find color inspirations this season?

Loving My Lilly!

With Spring in full swing and Summer knocking on it's door I find my self seriously gravitating towards all things floral and beachy.  When I think of beach, I think of resorts, and when I think of resorts, I think Lilly Pulitzer.  I remember my first Lilly piece, it was pink and green of course, a shift dress my mother bought me back in high school at a Lilly store we had in Germantown, TN.  I wore that on Easter Sunday and still remember all the compliments I received.  It made me feel so special.  After that, I had my Lilly bathing suit and from then on I was hooked.  An amazing Lilly piece can do that, reel you into the brand....and this is proven by how well it has stood the test of time.  Dating back to the 1970's, Lilly Pulitzer did and still continues to bring that retro flair complementing the looks of today to make her pieces so unique.  So if you don't own a Lilly Pulitzer item, or if you are as addicted as I am and own several, check out these gush worth pieces I'm in love with this season.  Start small or go all out, but every girl should own a little piece of Lilly!
