What a crazy week!

So let me just start by saying I know you all are probably sick of hearing about my recent vacay with the hubby and friends, but I think you'll soon find out how badly we needed it!  Last week, I was laid off from my pharmaceutical sales position I had held for 12 years.  Now I must say, I had mixed emotions leading up to this lay off since I have three small kids at home, but I'm not going to lie... it was a cush job.  So what did we do when we heard the news?  We took off for Key West! (We actually had this planned for quite a while so it's really not as crazy as it seems.)  Anyway, as I'm adjusting to stay at home life, and looking for a new job, I'm going to relive the better part of last week, and that was the fabulous trip.  Tell me if you can't almost smell the suntan lotion and margaritas through your computer....

After landing in Ft. Lauderdale we rented a car and began our three hour journey to Key West.  Of course we stopped for lunch the first chance we got at a beautiful outdoor restaurant called SunDowners on Key Largo.  It was great until my husband tried to feed the fish, he's a little bit obsessed with fishing, and instead of the fish eating, a flock of seagulls attacked us.  Unfortunately, my Tory Burch covered iPhone got the brunt of the attack and was subsequently covered in bird poo.  AHHH!!
As soon as we arrived, we rented these bikes for the duration of the trip. We didn't feel so bad eating and drinking so much since we worked it off by riding these everywhere.  The bikes are a little girly with the bells and the baskets, but the boys had as much fun as us girls!
The Mallory Square Sunset Celebration is not to be missed.  Do you recognize this guy from Southern Living's Key West article this past month?  He is just one of the many "interesting" characters out on the square every night working for tips.
These are the BEST mango margaritas I've ever tasted!  This sweet waitress, Erin, at Caroline's on Duval Street, surprisingly gave us the recipe.  My friend, Stacee, has it so when I get it, I will pass it on.  You have to try these yourselves.
Captain Tony's is a total hole in the wall, but the bands are usually really good.  (The shots are too!)
Sorry for the shadow on this picture, but this place, The Green Parrot is a really cool bar and their claim to fame is it's actually the first and last bar on A1A.  That means it's really, really far south!
This was one of our favorite meals from another famous restaurant, Louie's Backyard.  The food here is mouth watering and the atmosphere is to die for!
The hubby and me in front of Sloppy Joe's on Duval.  This place was made famous when Ernest Hemmingway locked himself upstairs in this bar during one of his really unstable stints back in the 1930's.
Of course I had to do some shopping, and this was the place I told you about yesterday, DejaVu.  Everything was so cute and totally affordable.
I had to take a picture of this dress the peeps at DejaVu made out of a Simplicity sewing pattern.  Fabulous!

Oh, now back to reality.  Have you all ever been to Key West and what are you favorite things to do there?

  8. Sorry to hear about your job--the exact same thing just happened to the mom in the family I've nannied for the last 6 years. She'd worked in pharmaceutical sales for 12 years and was a leader in her region, I'm sure it's tough, but it seems like you're going after it with the right attitude and I'm sure you needed this vacay as a break! I love the bikes and can't wait to read that recipe!
