I've been a busy little bee these past few weeks. My kids went to visit the grandparents and I actually had a little time to work on my house! Of course, the week went by a lot quicker than expected and I didn't get near as much done as I intended...(isn't that always the case?) but I did manage to get my kitchen in order.
First up, the cabinets. I live in a 1960's ranch house, and I think, most of the cabinets are original...just painted. They are white, which worked fine for a while, but as most of you know, I'm obsessed with chalk paint so I took this time to paint, distress, and then coat in wax the entire cabinet area. I also replaced the knobs.
The original cabinet and knobs.
After painting with chalk paint, distressing, and adding a brown wax.
Second, I recovered the old, boring, brown chairs in a duck egg blue chalk paint as well as recovered them in this fun yellow print. This one required a ton of Scotch Gard since I have super messy kids!
Last, I made some Roman shades to fit the window above the sink. We seem to get the direct morning sunlight in this window, and in the mornings, it can be extremely blinding as well as super annoying to my kids while they are enjoying their breakfast.
The entire project cost less than $200 with the majority of the cost being the gazillion knobs I had to purchase. Other than that, most everything else was super cheap it just took a lot of man hours...especially for those cabinets.
So what do you think? Does this look like a home improvement project you might under take?
